Pleasurable Pastimes

Fringe! Film Festival

Dalston Superstore profile one of the organisers of the very cool Fringe! Film Festival - taking place this April - at various London venues.

I am particularly excited by Stav Bee’s creation and wish I could get up early enough for the 4 am Twitter #dawnchorus which just sounds fabulous. Maybe I will try and stay up all night … but those days seem long gone.

I recently discovered the wonderful work of Childs i Foundation, where they rely on in kind support to market themselves.

Check out their videos. The one here is a special Mothers Day one but they regularly update all their supporters via video as the founder, Lucy Buck, used to be a video producer.

Other easy ways to help are to buy their handwash, Helping Hands, created by the skin care range Trilogy with all proceeds going to Childs i. Available in Boots and other selected stores.  Or check out their website to give directly,  in memory and respect of mothers everywhere, this Mother’s Day.

I miss you, and love you, Mum.

Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso for Sightsavers campaign

The photograph captures the driver’s eyes in an intense moment as he focuses and mentally prepares for the start. Each photograph is part of a unique project by Formula 1 photographer Andrew Hone and will help save the sight of people in the developing world. Mark Webber, Felipe Massa, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Michael Schumacher are part of the campaign too.

Photography is Andrew Hone. Amazing shots and there are available to win here:

Surprise! @LizJonesSomalia is a fake! Oh wow. No-way! Pah! Who knew?

About two thirds of you, actually - which is great, because if I’d got 50 negative replies a minute I’d have stopped a long time ago. I’m genuinely delighted that so many people get the joke and totally appreciative of the…

Bar 25 rises again
If like me you shed a metaphorical tear when Bar 25 closed down last summer, then weep no more.
I was last in Berlin in April and I got goosebumps when I spotted people building a new Bar 25 playground on the opposite side of the Spree, and lo and behold, it has arisen.
The photo is courtesy of electronic maestro Thomas Gandey and he reports that he ate the best steak in a long time while there, that there is room for about 2000 people and it is suitably apocalyptic and East side with all sorts going on indoors and outdoors.
Beam me to Berlin baby!

Great eco mural in Brighton

Created by local residents and street artists, this eco mural is timed to coincide with the Brighton Festival. Great idea which harnessed local community spirit too.
